I love our team and our approach to things. We are allowed to take ownership, offer ideas, and give feedback. I also enjoy the weekly and quarterly “what’s up” meetings as we call them, where you are asked how it is going in our area and to determine where help is needed if any.
I joined VELUX three years ago in the VELUX Greenwood finance department. My first job was a part-time position in accounts payable where I performed duties such as validating vendor accounts, reviewing journal postings including DFM (Document Flow Manager) cases, and ensuring vendor invoices were paid timely just to name a few. In 2021, I was promoted to a full-time Accounting Assistant, but on the accounts receivables team, which means I now handle incoming payments from our customers and collect on past due accounts in the Western and North Atlantic regions. I also do credit assessments and maintain the accuracy of our customer accounts. Accounting is like a puzzle to me, and I love that. I enjoy putting pieces together and finding the missing link, which is why I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I obtained my bachelor’s degree in accounting.
When I joined VELUX in 2019, I did not know what I was coming into. I just knew that I needed another job. But when I got here, I remember our Senior Director stating in my first quarterly meeting: “you all do not work for me, we work together as a team,” which really made me feel at home. I love our team and our approach to things. We are allowed to take ownership, offer ideas, and give feedback. I also enjoy the weekly and quarterly “what’s up” meetings as we call them, where you are asked how it is going in our area and to determine where help is needed if any.
In my free time, I am a health and fitness coach, which I have been for 11 years now. I started with myself and used myself as a guinea pig, and then opened up my services to other people.
Health and fitness coach before and after work In my free time, I am a health and fitness coach, which I have been for 11 years now. I started with myself and used myself as a guinea pig, and then opened up my services to other people. I basically educate them on how to remain healthy and maintain their body mass index (BMI). I am really focused on sharing the knowledge behind the things I tell them to do, as I believe it will help them in the process of transforming their way of living. People always ask me how I have the time to both be an accounting assistant and a health and fitness coach, and I admit I have some long days sometimes. I conduct my first session at 6:00 AM, and up to five sessions after work in the afternoon, but I always make it work. During the pandemic, I had to rethink my business, so I launched an online site to keep on helping my clients virtually. It went so well that I now keep on conducting both online and face-to-face sessions. It is a really rewarding occupation – especially when people write to you with gratitude that they are no longer taking their medication(s) because of the services and body transformation my sessions have given them. For that reason, I have also started offering a free four-week programme to the youth. It is nice to see that you can make a difference in the lives of such young individuals.
