Ambra Guglietti

Advanced Indoor Climate Specialist, Denmark

My goal is essentially to make buildings more sustainable – so we work every day to get more architects, engineers, and professional house builders to integrate daylight and fresh air into buildings by choosing our products. To me, it is super interesting not only to sell a window but to sell the effect of what a window can do.

In 2015, I moved from Italy to Denmark to study my master’s degree in sustainable energy engineering with a specialty in building design. My interest in sustainable buildings started during my studies in Rome where we were asked by a professor to join a program to design a single-family home together with students from the West Virginia University in the US. We had two years to design the house and have it built. Our goal was to make the house an ultra-low energy building, unconnected to any energy supply, while still functioning as a liveable home. These two years were basically what made me engaged in buildings and made me understand a building’s impact on health and environment. After my studies in Denmark, I decided to stay and later on I joined VELUX in my current position.

I joined VELUX in 2020 just before the COVID-19 outbreak. Luckily, I had a month together with my new colleagues in the office where we could meet physically before we had to stay home and meet online. I am part of the Daylight, Energy and Indoor Climate (DEIC) team and beyond supporting Products and the rest of the organisation with our knowledge, I mainly work with our target group of external architects, engineers, and constructors. Our team provides them with different digital tools to help them design buildings with more daylight and fresh air. My goal is essentially to make buildings more sustainable – so we work every day to get more architects, engineers, and professional house builders to integrate daylight and fresh air into buildings by choosing our products. To me, it is super interesting not only to sell a window but to sell the effect of what a window can do.

I love being up there, because you shut out everything else and only focus on figuring out how to move.

When I am not at work, I do aerials. It is a sport where you do acrobatics in the air while hanging from two silks. As a child, I did dance and gymnastics, so this is a perfect mix where I get to use my whole body and challenge myself by being up in the air. Ironically, I am a bit scared of heights, but doing aerials help me to confront it. I love being up there, because you shut out everything else and only focus on figuring out how to move in the silks and make expressive postures with your body.
