Before joining VELUX in 2018, I had my own business for 13 years. However, at some point, I had had enough and decided that it was time for some change, so I sold my business in 2013.
My family and I went travelling through Asia, the US and Europe on and off for nearly five years and it was an amazing time. We even lived in France for four months not far from Saint Tropez and did a home exchange with another family who then lived in our house. We swapped cars, swapped everything, swapped lives, basically. When we moved back home to Australia I thought it was time to get back into the workforce and it was good for me personally – coming from a job as self-employed, it was nice to feel a part of something and a company with such a great culture.
As a Territory Manager, I oversee all projects involving VELUX Skylights in my local area. This means working with the architect to design and specify VELUX Skylights within a project, working with builders and installers on how to install VELUX Skylights to maximise their effect and working with dealers to promote VELUX Skylights within my region. At the moment, I’m involved in a project where we supply roof windows to 200 houses within a developed community. The most satisfying aspect of this role is seeing a project from start to finish, especially when you design a skylight layout and the finished product is better than you envisaged.

Scott Palmer, Territory Manager, Australia
Working as a Territory Manager is a bit unordinary because of my solitary role. I live 8 hours away from our VELUX office near Sydney and the territory I’m responsible for is almost the size of Denmark. We have about 14 territory managers around Australia and I would say that only 3-4 live within driving distance to the office. It is a very independent job, but luckily I get to work with so many people during a week – architects, dealers, installers, contractors etc., and we have daily talks online in the team.
I live in the Byron Bay region on the north coast, which I like to call the Saint Tropez of Australia. It’s just a beautiful area and I love that we have the ocean in our backyard. I like to go boating and fishing. I have 3 different boats. A large boat for cruising with the family, one for fishing and a smaller one for crabbing and river fishing. Last year, for the first time, I undertook the challenge of captaining our large cruiser from the Whitsunday Islands to Brisbane. A 1200 km journey over 7 days. Visiting many deserted islands, navigating dangerous storms and dining on fish and oysters caught in the wild. A trip I'm also planning to do this year. Before this hobby of mine, I used to surf a lot, but we had a lot of shark attacks in my area, which sort of spooked me out. When you spend more time looking under the water than surfing, it’s probably time to stop. I just didn’t enjoy it anymore, so now I’ve decided to stay above water instead, spending my free time on boating with the family and catching big fish with friends. Sometimes I go fishing with one of the VELUX dealers in my area, who has become a friend of mine these past few years.
