Senior Operator Instructor, Czech Republic

I enjoy working with the production of our products and with the people around me.

I work at our production site BKR-CZ in Vyškov in the Czech Republic where I have been for over 20 years. Most of my time, working as a Senior Operator Instructor, is spend on the DKL line where I instruct the operators in how to operate the production equipment for our DKL blackout roller blinds. In addition to that, part of my job is to monitor the security on the production line, make sure equipment is cleaned and train new employees. When I first joined VELUX, I started as a production operator, followed by a role as coordinator and then I progressed to become an instructor some years back now. I enjoy working with the production of our products and with the people around me. We take turns on the line and we always have different tasks, so our work is rarely monotonous. Since I have been here for so long, I feel at home and I like our team.

In 2018, during a routine inspection, I was diagnosed with a tumor that later proved to be malignant. I had to undergo surgery followed by chemotherapy, which meant that I could not go to work for a year and a half. Unfortunately, there were permanent late effects from chemotherapy and my life was completely changed. In this difficult time, I was happy to have my family around, who helped me and supported me. My colleagues from work also called me to express their support which really meant a lot and I am still grateful to them for that.

I like to go for walks in nature, go on some longer trips by bike and then I also really enjoy swimming.

After my recovery, I was looking forward to going back to work, but it was hard in the beginning. My body did not want to cooperate the way it used to. However, I was glad that VELUX understood my situation and offered me to work part time during the morning shifts where I am less tired. The Employee Foundation also helped me financially, which was a way for me to compensate my lost working hours at that time. Today, I am still affected by the late effects and work part time, but I am doing okay.

In my free time, I spend a lot of time with my grandchildren – I have two and one more on the way. It is a thrill being a grandmother so I try to spend as much time with them as possible. Otherwise, I like to go for walks in nature, go on some longer trips by bike and then I also really enjoy swimming. One of the benefits we have at BKR is free access to the local public swimming pool four times a month, so I use those facilities from time to time.
